Getting Your Dog Used to New Gear: 4 Tips
Dogs need time to adjust to new clothing — especially full-coverage suits. Here are a few steps that make the process easier:
Let Them Explore First
Place the jacket on the ground and let your dog sniff and investigate it freely. Reward them with treats to create a positive association before any wearing attempt.
Short Practice Sessions
Gently put the suit on indoors for 1–2 minutes, then remove it and immediately give praise and a treat. Gradually extend the time over several sessions until the dog is comfortable.
Indoor Movement First
Once the dog accepts wearing the suit, let them move around indoors for a few minutes to get used to the weight and feel. Confirm natural gait before taking them outside.
Positive Association
Never force. Observe reactions and reinforce with treats throughout. The goal is for the dog to connect the suit with something good: suit on = walk time, play time, adventure time.
Patience and positive reinforcement get dogs there faster than you'd expect. Most dogs adjust within a few sessions — and then they'll be ready for any weather :D
