Traditional vs. PETT2GO Dog Breathable Raincoat - PETT2GO

Traditional vs. PETT2GO Dog Breathable Raincoat

Traditional raincoats aren't bad at waterproofing — they're bad at everything else. Breathability, stretch, and full-body coverage are the three things a dog raincoat needs to work in real conditions. The PETT2GO Breathable Raincoat was built to solve all three simultaneously. Not one at the expense of the others.

You May Have Already Tried a Standard Pet Raincoat. And Found:

  • The dog stops moving after a few steps — or refuses to move at all
  • Shorter stride, stiff posture, like something is holding them back
  • Belly fur still soaked when you get home — no time saved on post-walk cleanup

These aren't fit problems. They're not personality problems. They're design problems — three of them, each with a specific cause.

Three Problems. Three Root Causes.

❶ No Breathability → The Dog Wants Out

The physics of PVC and single-layer waterproof coatings: they stop rain from getting in, and they stop heat from getting out. During a moderate-activity walk, a dog's metabolic heat has nowhere to go — the dog overheats inside the garment. The response is to stop, shake it off, or refuse to continue.

This isn't the dog being uncooperative. The garment is making them uncomfortable, and stopping is the only way they can say so.

❷ Inelastic Fabric → Stride Shortens

Non-stretch waterproof fabrics restrict shoulder rotation and forelimb extension during movement — the same fundamental problem as other poorly fitted dog garments, compounded by the fact that waterproof materials are typically stiffer. Measured stride reduction in standard pet raincoats: 15–20%. That's why dogs in conventional raincoats walk with a visibly altered gait.

❸ Incomplete Coverage → Belly Still Wet

Standard raincoat patterns cover the back. For low-clearance breeds — Corgis, Dachshunds — the belly passes through puddles and wet grass on every walk. A raincoat that leaves the belly uncovered defeats its primary purpose: reducing post-walk cleanup.

PETT2GO Breathable Raincoat — 2.5-layer waterproof, four-way stretch, full belly coverage

PETT2GO's Three Solutions

① 2.5-Layer Construction: Waterproof and Breathable. Simultaneously.

As shown in the video, the PETT2GO raincoat cross-section clearly shows the 2.5 PU Lamination architecture:

  • Outer face fabric: DWR treatment — water beads and rolls off the surface
  • PU membrane: prevents water from penetrating inward
  • Inner half-layer (the "0.5"): allows body heat and moisture vapor to continuously escape outward

The result: 10,000mm waterproof rating with MVTR 20,000 g/m²/24hrs breathability — the same performance standard used in premium human outdoor jackets. Dogs stay dry in moderate-to-steady rain for 5–6 hours continuously.

Certified to AATCC 35 Rain Test — the U.S. Customs standard for rainwear-grade fabric classification. As demonstrated in the video: water hits the surface, beads, and rolls off. Pass.

② Run-Free Cut™ with Four-Way Stretch: Move Like There's No Raincoat

As shown in the video's stretch test, PETT2GO raincoat fabric extends in all four directions — something standard waterproof fabrics cannot do. Combined with Run-Free Cut™ ergonomic pattern construction — Free-Shoulder Panel for full forelimb extension, Balloon Cuff ends clearing joint flexion points — the result is a measured stride retention rate of 96%. Gait with and without the raincoat is the same.

③ Full-Coverage Suit + Gender-Specific Cut: Belly Actually Stays Dry

The full-coverage suit design covers approximately 80% of coat surface area, including the belly, keeping dogs dry through puddles and wet pavement. Male cut uses an open-belly design for hygiene during elimination — no need to remove the suit. Female cut uses full coverage to block mud and water splash from below.

The final shot in the video — a dog running freely in the PETT2GO raincoat — is the point: full stride, dry belly, keeps moving.

Traditional Raincoat vs. PETT2GO Breathable Raincoat

Criteria ⚠️ Traditional Raincoat ❓ Why It's a Problem ✅ PETT2GO Raincoat
Waterproof construction PVC or single-layer coating Waterproof but zero breathability 2.5-layer PU lamination — 10,000mm waterproof
Breathability Near zero Dog overheats and refuses to move MVTR 20,000 g/m²/24hrs — comfortable even in summer rain
Fabric stretch None — stiff and rigid Stride reduced 15–20% 4-way stretch — 96% stride retention
Belly coverage Back only Belly fur soaked through puddles Full-coverage suit — ~80% of coat surface
Gender cut Universal — no distinction Male dogs wet the suit during elimination Open belly (male) / full coverage (female)
Weight / packability Heavy — not convenient to carry Left at home when rain starts unexpectedly ~200g with packable pouch — always in the bag

Rain isn't a reason to stay home. For most dogs, a wet pavement smells more interesting than a dry one — they want to be out there more than you think.

PETT2GO's Breathable Raincoat was built so the raincoat is never the reason they stop. Put it on. Let them go.
